Mat Men Booster Club

The “Staples Mat Men” organization is the official booster club for the Staples High School wrestling team.  The sole purpose of the organization is the advancement of Staples Wrestling and the enrichment of every Student Athlete, Parent and supporter touched by the program. Our focus is on those important elements of running a successful program beyond what the school is able to provide.  Our impact is meaningful and focused and we are committed to ensuring our program is worthy of the hard work of our Student Athletes and the legacy of the great Wrecker name.

The Mat Men work hand in hand with the Staples Athletic Department, head coach, PAL and parents to provide council, fund raising and overall program development throughout the year.  The Mat Men also ensures continuity as our athletes and parents transition through the program.

The Mat Men organization is led by a board of directors made up of seven dedicated volunteers extremely familiar with the sport of wrestling, program management and fiscal responsibility.  The Mat Men leadership is a mix of parents with athletes currently in the program and parents of former Staples Wrestling captains.

The Student Athlete is at the heart of every decision made by the Mat Men and the clear mission is to ensure that every student grows from their time as a Staples Wrestler and both the athlete and the program are stronger for their participation.

Staples Wrestling is supported by the rules of the FCIAC, CIAC and overall Staples guiding principles.  The objective of the Booster Club is to ensure that the team and staff leverage that support but also provides the additional support needed to build and maintain a world class contemporary high school wrestling program.

The Mat Men’s activities include, but are not limited to such things as:

  • Overall Program Development
  • Budgeting
  • Fund Raising
  • Scholarship
  • Staff Recruitment and Development
  • Athlete and Parent Recruitment
  • Communication
  • Health and Safety
  • Community Engagement

Membership:  Fund raising is essential to the mission.  The Staples Mat Men raises money to be used to supplement requirements that are outside of what the school can provide on its own.  Examples are things like:
  • Equipment (mats, hoist, PA, tournament equipment etc.)
  • Supplemental Coaching (clinics, camps etc.)
  • Scholarships
  • Year-end banquet
  • Branded practice gear
  • Tournament Travel
  • Team Building activities

The Mat Men are committed to an objective that money will never keep a student from participation, and that membership is voluntary not mandatory.
